Background: In in-patient healthcare settings, particularly during critical and stressful moments, communication between healthcare providers and patient caregivers is essential. The modes and methods of communication differ globally, ranging from traditional face-to-face discussions to advanced digital tools. However, there is a need for a comprehensive understanding of how these varying communication practices influence patient caregiver satisfaction in in-patient healthcare settings. This scoping review aims to produce a literature map of current evidence on best healthcare communication practices and potential gaps in communication strategies that may affect patient caregiver satisfaction levels. Method: A search for relevant publications will be undertaken in MEDLINE Ovid, Cochrane, Scopus, PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, ProQuest, Embase, Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), the Cochrane Library, and clinical trials registries. Publications in English and those where the author can provide the full text in English will be included. Studies conducted in hospitals, including in-patient healthcare settings like medical and surgical wards, medical and surgical ICU units, Operation theatres, and patient caregivers, will be included. A three-stage method will be employed to identify relevant articles. This process involves a database search using keywords, a search for keywords and index terms across all databases, and reference searching. Articles will be selected after screening their titles and abstracts, followed by a full-text appraisal using a standardized selection form. Two independent reviewers will extract data using this form, which will be tested on two articles. Data extraction will focus on various communication methods, study design, and outcomes for patient-caregiver satisfaction. The results will be presented both narratively and in tables and figures, mapping the scope of global communication practices and their impact on patient-caregiver satisfaction levels.
