Abstract

Effect of anisotropy in the physical tensor description of the negative index\nof refraction material (left-handed material, LHM) acting as a substrate is\nfound on the electromagnetic field distributions. Field distributions are\nprovided in the GHz region in the cross-section of the uniform microstrip\nguided wave structure. It is found from ab initio Green's function calculations\nthat modifying the tensor can allow control because the wave changes\nvolumetrically, or switches from volumetric to surface, in its distribution of\nfields. Comparison is made of the LHM results to ordinary right-handed material\n(RHM) acting as a substrate.\n
