Abstract: The main objective of following paper consists of examining the representation of female characters in the Romance of Cassidorus which is characterized by its narrative innovation within the European literary tradition of the Seven Sages´ legend. For this purpose, two embedded tales in Cassidorus will be selected in order to offer a concise analysis of the topic. Gender studies, imagology and close reading represent the methodological approaches to be used in this contribution. The paper will defend the hypothesis that misogynistic features can be traced back in the selected sub-tales. It will also argue that, unlike the female characters in the embedded tales, the main female protagonist in the frame story undergoes a very positive change.
