Abstract

This scoping review systematically examines the role of faith-based organizations (FBOs) in delivering disability care for persons with physical disabilities in India. With public health expenditure remaining limited and healthcare access particularly constrained in rural areas, FBOs have emerged as key partners in supporting this marginalized population. The review explores various types of FBOs—including local congregations, national networks, and freestanding organizations—analyzing their service delivery models, community engagement strategies, and impact on the well-being and social integration of individuals with disabilities. By identifying gaps in current research and highlighting effective practices, this review aims to inform policymakers and practitioners about strategies to strengthen collaboration between FBOs and other social institutions, ultimately improving the quality of life for persons with physical disabilities across India.
