Objective: This review aims to explore serious games and game-based interventions designed to improve clinical leadership skills and team resilience by gaining an understanding of the extent and type of evidence relating to which game elements and game components promote skill acquisition and acceptance of game-based interventions. Introduction: To improve retention and enable the development of clinical leadership skills. Healthcare facilities are increasingly looking for effective, scalable, and sustainable training options. Serious games have the potential to meet these needs. However, there is little consensus on how to best develop, implement or evaluate serious games. Inclusion criteria: Healthcare professionals in various leadership roles, including medical practitioners, nurses, and allied health practitioners, as well as those in non-clinical positions. It focuses on interventions involving serious games or gamified components within digital platforms aimed at enhancing skills in leadership, teamwork, decision-making, or resilience. The review will encompass a wide range of study designs, from randomized controlled trials to observational and descriptive studies, and may also include systematic reviews if they meet the criteria. Methods: This scoping review follows JBI methodology and the PRISMA-ScR statement to explore key factors in gamification and serious games for leadership skills. It will cover English studies from 2005 to 2024. The search will use MEDLINE, PsycINFO, and Scopus, including both published and grey literature. Results will be managed in Endnote, and titles and abstracts screened in Covidence. Two reviewers will independently assess and code data, using a participant, concept, context approach. Discrepancies will be resolved through discussion or with a third reviewer. A PRISMA flow diagram will illustrate the article selection process.
