We prove that strongly homotopy algebras (such as A_∞, C_∞, sh Lie, B_∞, G_∞,...) are homotopically invariant in the category of chain complexes. An important consequence is a rigorous proof that `strongly homotopy structures transfer over chain homotopy equivalences.'
