Toth’s In Search of the Drowned is a tripartite work of digital art-scholarship that explores the notion of a testimonial fragment – here, as part of our history about the Holocaust. Through multimodal, philosophical essays; a hierarchical tree visualization; and an archive of nearly 3,000 survivor testimonies, this piece engages critically with what it means to give voice to collective suffering when the particular experiences of so many have been lost to posterity.
