pp. 30-44 ‘Trans-Exile’ is the point where distant exiles converge, and the ‘trans-exilic approach’ navigates these crossroads. The trans-exilic perspective emphasizes the connections and interactions between individuals who share the condition of exile but originate from different places and/or time periods. It focuses on the transnational and transhistorical intersections among exiles, seeking to identify and categorize these interactions while examining their influence on the experience and creative output of exiles. To introduce the concept of ‘Trans-Exile’ and to validate the trans-exilic perspective, I conduct a case study of the trans-exilic connections established by an author from the second generation of Spanish exiles in Mexico, Angelina Muñiz-Huberman and the theatre director Ludwik Margules, a Polish exile in Mexico. Based on the findings of this study, I conclude that the trans-exilic method enables readers to approach the exiles and their cultural production from a perspective they might not have otherwise considered. This method offers a fresh lens through which to view exiles and their work, adding another layer of interpretation to existing studies. The trans-exilic perspective has dual potential: it situates the study of exile within a broader, more universal context, expanding the range of interpretations, while also highlighting the importance of exploring the detail and distinctive aspects of each individual exile experience.
