Abstract

The study was conducted from July 2018 to June 2023, on five-year retrospective data records at veterinary clinics and health posts in the Wombera district. A descriptive frequency statistic was used to ascertain how diseases were distributed among animals, locations, and periods. During this period, 1158 livestock received a diagnosis. Of the 1158 livestock that have been diagnosed, 847 (73%) were cattle, 151 (13%) were sheep, 53 (4.6%) were goats, 59 (5.1%) were equines, and 48 (4.14%) were chickens. Endoparasites 33%, bacteria 29.9%, ectoparasites 16.1%, protozoa 12.4%, and viral infections 5.3% were the most commonly identified disorders in these animals. The prevalence of diseases in livestock showed that the most common conditions were endoparasites 6.22%, bacterial infections 4.1%, ectoparasites 1.98%, and viral infections 1.13%. Summer had 406 cases (35%) of the total cases, and spring had 266 cases (23%). Winter and autumn had 247 cases (21% and 21%, respectively) and smaller numbers of cases in terms of animals. Based on the survey, the most common issues impacting livestock are parasitic, bacterial, protozoan, and viral illnesses. Consequently, action is required, with a focus on making sure that appropriate practices and management of livestock health are followed.
