The aim of the CREATIVE project was to improve the control of apple tree pests by acquiring knowledge on two major genera of ascomycete fungi: Venturia spp. and Alternaria spp. respectively responsible for scab and apple leaf blotch. The project provided knowledge on the genetics of the fungi responsible for these diseases, in relation to their pathogenicity and their ability to resist to fungicides. In addition, epidemiological monitoring tools for their detection in orchards have been developed, which can be used routinely in analysis laboratories.
