Agriculture in the Ile-de-France region is dominated by arable crops production and dependent on mineral fertilizers. Soils are often impoverished in organic matter and their fertility can be affected. The proximity to the city offers opportunities for recycling organic waste products (OWP) to improve farm autonomy and soil fertility. The introduction of more legume crops could also contribute to these improvements. In this context, the objective of the PROLEG project was to propose cropping systems mobilizing OWP and legumes, to improve farm autonomy regarding mineral fertilizers, while maximizing the services provided by these systems. An inventory of OWPs in the territory was carried out, pointing out the potential of OWPs to meet the needs of agriculture. New experiments in the field and in the laboratory on the effects of OWPs and legumes, as well as a synthesis of existing knowledge, has made it possible to better guide the use of these resources. A multicriteria evaluation tool has been developed to estimate the performance of short and long term cropping systems, by integrating the specificities of OWPs and legumes. Finally, co-design workshops supported by the evaluation tool made it possible to propose cropping systems that meet the objectives of farmers in terms of autonomy or fertility of their soil
