Nematodes are relevant bioindicators for studying the effect of agricultural practices on soil biological functioning. This meta-analysis evaluates the effect of legumes compared to non-leguminous plants. The results obtained in 18 trials conducted in 14 different countries were coded for 23 nematofaunal parameters and analyzed. The bacterial-feeder nematodes, and the nematofaunic parameters related to their presence, are increased in the soil subjected to the influence of legumes compared to the soil subjected to the influence of non-leguminous plants. This result reflects increased nutrient availability and increased primary decomposer activity, noticeable at the surface soil stratum (0-20 cm). On the other hand, the overall biological activity is only slightly increased and the complexity of the soil food web is not affected by the presence of legumes.
