This research investigates the influence of self-efficacy on the motivation and engagement of professional athletes in adhering to prescribed rehabilitation programs following sports-related injuries. The study hypothesizes that higher levels of self-efficacy correlate with better adherence to rehabilitation programs, driven by increased motivation and sustained engagement. Conducted by a group of sport psychologists, this study aims to address a common mental health issue faced by athletes during injury rehabilitation. Through a qualitative research design, semi-structured interviews were conducted with professional athletes from basketball who have completed their rehabilitation programs. Thematic analysis of the interview transcripts revealed that athletes with higher self-efficacy demonstrated greater commitment and consistency in their rehabilitation efforts. The findings highlight the importance of self-efficacy in rehabilitation adherence and provide insights into the sources of self efficacy, including mastery experiences, vicarious experiences, verbal persuasion, and physiological states. This research underscores the need for targeted interventions to enhance self-efficacy among athletes, thereby improving rehabilitation outcomes and offering practical insights for better intervention practices.
