Abstract

We introduce a fourth-order Willmore-type problem for closed four-dimensional submanifolds immersed in ℝⁿ and establish a connected sum energy reduction for the general fourth-order Willmore energy, analogous to the seminal result of Bauer and Kuwert \citeBauer-Kuwert03.
