Literaronyms in Hviezdoslav‘s Prose (Ežo Vlkolinský, Gábor Vlkolinský) The aim of the study is to examine literararonyms in two Hviezdoslav‘s prose works. In Ežo Vlkolinský, a confl ict of the landowner‘s son, Ežo Vlkolinský, with his mother, Esther Vlkolinská, is depicted. This confl ict stems from the mother’s opposition to the son‘s marriage to a peasant, Žofka Bocková. In Gábor Vlkolinský, the landowners Šimún and Tereza Vlkolinskí succumb to alcohol and their son Gábor marries into the peasant Blažek family. Onymically, the story focuses at Vlkolín and the two families of Vlkolinský landowners. Landowning families tended to name family members with names of Hebrew origin, thus distinguishing themselves from peasant families. The vernacular Slovak onymy of both epics is fi lled with the names of villagers, landscape names, names of festivals and folk songs. The non-Slovak Hungarian onymy was related only to the anthroponymy used to refer to lords. P. O. Hviezdoslav captured the atmosphere of the Slovak village at the end of the 19th century in the above-mentioned onymic manner.
