Design new Schiff bases from antipyrine and study their anticorrosion activity in acidic medium

Abstract

Abstract: There are many methods used to protect metals from corrosion and in different ways, according to the nature of the use of the metal, and one of these methods is to add organic substances that protect the metal from corrosive factors. Herein we synthesized a new corrosion inhibitor have Schiff base group and aromatic rings from reaction of 4-aminoantipyrine with 4-aminoacetophenone was prepared then reacted with maleic anhydride to yield amic acid which introduced in dehydration reaction by using acetic anhydride and anhydrous sodium acetate as dehydrating agent to producing the final product which have two important groups (maleimide and Schiff base group), the synthesized compounds were characterized by FTIR, 1H-NMR, and Atomic Force Spectroscopy (AFM), and the anticorrosion inhibition activity of synthesized compounds were studied. The effect of the synthesized compounds on the inhibition of Stainless steel (S.S) corrosion in the acidic medium (hydrochloric acid solution) was studied by using of different concentrations of the inhibitor and compared with the corrosion of black (hydrochloric acid solution) without the presence of the inhibitor at different temperatures range (298-323) K and the compounds given excellent protecting of metal up to 97% by using electrochemical polarization technique. Also calculated  the thermodynamic and  kinetic parameters (ΔH⋇, Ea⋇, ΔS⋇ and ΔG⋇) for blank and inhibitors solutions.
