In a context of reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, biomass production becomes a national and European issue. If wood, waste and the co-products are the first exploited resources, the use of agricultural biomass is paid more attention in addition. The LIDEA project conducted a first analysis of the interest and feasibility of dedicated biomass crop, named ligno-cellulosic crops. Multi-siteagronomic, economic and environmental studies made it possible to establish first trends. The technical feasibility seems to be validated in most sectors, but the economic interest is more random and depends on the operating system and the economic context of reference. Competition is still important with the fossil resources and only drastic optimization can make this biomass competitive. Under such a condition, lignocellulosic crops could cover on a long term several tens of thousands of hectares in Picardie, and Champagne-Ardenne.
