Fire protection regulations in the National Building Code were traditionally developed in response to fire losses and representations from industry. More recently, advances in technology, increased knowledge, changing philosophies and user needs have become the impetus for Code changes. The continued success of the Code in meeting fire protection needs will depend on designers' increased knowledge of fire protection engineering principles.
