Abstract

<em>The purpose of this study was to assess the current practices and Challenges of Community Participation in School Leadership Effectiveness: The Case of Secondary Schools of South Wollo Zone Amhara Regional State, Ethiopia. For this study, descriptive survey was employed; both quantitative and qualitative data were used to gather information through questionnaire and document analysis. From the total sample size four study groups, 310 teachers which were selected by simple random sampling technique 48 PSTA &amp; 48 SETMB members and 16 secondary school principals selected purposively, all filled and returned the questionnaire which is 100 percent of the total sample. The other tool used to this study was document analysis. While analyzed the data collected using these mentioned tool; frequency, valid percent, mean and standard deviation, descriptive statics and one sample statistics were employed. Some of the major findings based on the research questions were, concerning to the status of CP in secondary school in school leadership effectiveness such as: assisting  children, arrange time and place for studying, Follow the academic performance and Reduce their kids work load at home found to be low. Forms of CP by mobilizing money, material &amp; labor were found low. The PSTA &amp; SETMB members participation in leadership functions such as planning, decision making, managing discipline, financial management, monitoring and evaluation, was low level. </em><em>Major factors that hinder PSTA &amp; SETMB members from participating in school issue</em><em>; Lack of training, Inappropriate time and place of meetings, Principals underestimate the role of PSTA &amp; SETMB members, Lack of interest and willingness of the PSTA &amp; SETMB members were found low.</em><em> The School principal that hinder PSTA &amp; SETMB members in participation;</em><em> Non participatory leadership style, Negative attitude, Failure to communicate and Lack of training how to participate the </em><em>PSTA &amp; SETMB members</em><em> were found low. To improve the condition, allowing The CP actively in school issue through PSTA &amp; SETMB members, providing adequate training to PSTA &amp; SETMB members, principals and teachers how to carry out their responsibilities, creating conducive environment by motivate PSTA &amp; SETMB members, and arrange time and place of meeting on their interest, provide rewards for PSTA &amp; SETMB members those who have better performance would be awarded during parents day at school level. WEO experts &amp; cluster center supervisors  should give professional support to teachers, principals, PSTA &amp; SETMB members in order to improve their limitations; they also had great responsibility to link the schools with other stakeholders is recommended to solve the problem to  strengthen school leadership effectiveness.</em>
