He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin under the direction of Richard Askey. He has taught at Penn State University, the University of Wisconsin, Beloit College, Bates College, Bucknell University, and Connecticut College. His paper The Curious History of Faà di Bruno's Formula (this MONTHLY, March 2002) won a Lester R. Ford award. He has now published articles on calculus and on trigonometry in this MONTHLY, and he is wondering whether he will be able to sell them on addition of fractions.
