Abstract

We exhibit infinitely many extremal effective codimension-k cycles in\n\\M_g,n in the cases\n g\≥ 3, n\≥ g-1 and k=2,\n g\≥ 2, k\≤ n-g,g, and\n g=1, k\≤ n-2.\n Hence in these cases the effective cone is not rational polyhedral.\n
