The contemporary transformation of capitalism is closely linked to the environmental crisis. This paper focuses on the debate surrounding development as a catalyst in the struggle between the spirit of capitalism and ecological critique. It will show how, on one hand, capitalism is able to absorb ecological critique. However, on the other hand, a radical dimension within ecological critique remains capable of challenging capitalism and its spirit.
