We establish that the Volterra-type integral operator Jb on the Hardy spaces Hp of the unit ball \mathbbBn exhibits a rather strong rigid behavior. More precisely, we show that the compactness, strict singularity and ℓp-singularity of Jb are equivalent on Hp for any 1 ≤ p < ∞. Moreover, we show that the operator Jb acting on Hp cannot fix an isomorphic copy of ℓ2 when p ≠ 2.
