It is shown that the vorticity vector may be expressed as the sum of a ’’microscopic’’ and a ’’macroscopic’’ rotation. This permits a rational interpretation of the fact that it equals twice the rigid body rotation vector, removing uncomfortable notions expressed in the literature on this subject.
