The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of illegal trans-border migration on the socioeconomic well-being of migrants in the Atsbi Wenberta wereda, Tigray Regional State. A total of 134 respondents were selected through stratified sampling, while key informants were selected through simple random and purposive sampling methods. Data were collected using questionnaires, key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used to analyze the data. The findings of the study indicated that illegal trans-border migration had a significant impact on the economy and health of migrants in the study area. The study revealed that illegal trans-border migration has significant economic and health impacts. Specifically, 61.20% of the migrants experienced economic challenges, including a lack of social services, hunger, unemployment, and overwork. Additionally, 48.50% of the variance in illegal trans-border migration was linked to health issues, such as sexually transmitted diseases, malaria, mental health problems, and loss of body parts. The study recommends further research to explore the sources and causes of migration, aiming to mitigate the socioeconomic and health impacts on migrants in the study area.
