Abstract

This work presents the first quantitative framework linking Olmec inscriptions to rhythmic and tonal organization in ceremonial practice. Developed independently by Donald E. Chilberg, the Glyphic Acoustic Matrix and Rhythm Score Equation provide a reproducible method for identifying and measuring rhythmic structure within visual glyph sequences. No prior research has proposed a mathematical model interpreting Olmec or other Formative-Period Mesoamerican inscriptions as proto-musical notation. This document formalizes the theoretical basis and computational logic for that approach, offering a verifiable, field-based standard for evaluating sound, rhythm, and symbolic behavior in early Mesoamerican contexts.
