Il saggio indaga attività poco note dell’Istituto per il Medio ed Estremo Oriente nel primo decennio dopo la sua ricostituzione nel 1947, con un focus particolare sui “rapporti politici” che Giuseppe Tucci era solito inviare al Ministero degli Affari Esteri al termine dei suoi viaggi e delle sue missioni in Asia. Queste relazioni offrivano a Palazzo Chigi informazioni di prima mano sulle realtà asiatiche di quegli anni determinanti, segnati dalla Guerra fredda e dalla decolonizzazione. Tali rapporti sono infine utilizzati per una valutazione critica della nozione tucciana di “Eurasia”. This article explores the lesser-known activities of the Istituto per il Medio ed Estremo Oriente (IsMEO) during the first decade after its reestablishment in 1947, with particular attention to the “political reports” that Giuseppe Tucci regularly submitted to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs following his travels and missions in Asia. These reports provided Palazzo Chigi with first-hand insights into Asian contexts during those crucial years shaped by the Cold War and decolonization. Ultimately, they serve as the basis for a critical reassessment of Tucci’s notion of “Eurasia.”
