Reducing the use of antibiotics in livestock production is a recent societal concern, which entails risks at different scales: a risk of antibioresistance for public health; a production risk for the farmer;a reputation risk for the industry.The trade-offs are all the more complex since the practices of use are varied, rooted, and their technical and economic effectiveness proven.Reducing antibiotic use is proving to be a withdrawal innovation associated with a high uncertainty.In this paper, the authors focus on multifactorial productiondiseases, for which the reduction of antibiotic use on a preventive basis is particularly targeted.They mobilize examples from dairy and beefcattle.They are interested in the way actors create and share information around the new selective treatment practices they adopt or advise, to generate new knowledge, to analyse and manage risks, to coordinate, to innovate.They show that the logic of actors is profoundly transformed, even when the new practices are part of the improvement of the efficiency of the existing production system
