Abstract

The Fontan circuit is the corrective circulatory pathway for children with congenital heart defects who have a single functional ventricle. This article reviews the haemodynamic peculiarities of the Fontan circuit and highlights the pathophysiology that contributes to the complications seen in the Fontan physiology.
