Abstract

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is a leading cause of infant mortality in the post-neonatal period, and its multifactorial etiology continues to be explored. This article presents an overview of recent research findings and prevention strategies. Data collected from multiple studies suggest an involvement of the autonomic nervous system in SIDS. Multiple studies reinforced the association between low birth weight and preterm births with an increased SIDS risk. This article also highlights the key preventive strategies such as safe sleep practices, avoiding maternal smoking, and promoting breastfeeding, outlined by NICE guidelines. Furthermore, it emphasises the need for increased parental education regarding the risks of SIDS and effective preventive measures.
