An improved method is presented for the computation of the behavior of fire in an enclosure. The method takes into account the composition and geometrical shape of fuel and the change of equilibrium gas composition with temperature. It is applied to fires in a single compartment during "developed" and "decay" periods. Temperatures of gas and building elements, rate of combustion, rates of various heat losses, and composition of fire atmosphere are calculated. Uncertain factors that should be investigated in future studies to improve the present computation include the oxygen deficiency factor in the developed period of fire, the rate of penetration of fire into various fuels, and the combustion behavior of char.
