Abstract

Purely baryonic weak decays of heavy baryons are investigated within the framework of the Skyrme model. These decays belong to a new class of unobserved decay channels, which would help us to test the standard model, particularly potential sources of <a:math xmlns:a="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <a:mrow> <a:mi mathvariant="italic">CP</a:mi> </a:mrow> </a:math> violation in the baryonic sector. By interpreting the heavy baryon as a bound state of a heavy meson and a baryon (Skyrmion), a direct calculation of the decay process <c:math xmlns:c="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <c:mrow> <c:msub> <c:mi mathvariant="normal">Λ</c:mi> <c:mi>b</c:mi> </c:msub> <c:mo>→</c:mo> <c:mi>p</c:mi> <c:mover accent="true"> <c:mi>p</c:mi> <c:mo>¯</c:mo> </c:mover> <c:mi>n</c:mi> </c:mrow> </c:math> is performed. The resulting branching fraction is of <f:math xmlns:f="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <f:mrow> <f:mi>O</f:mi> <f:mo>(</f:mo> <f:msup> <f:mn>10</f:mn> <f:mrow> <f:mo>−</f:mo> <f:mn>6</f:mn> </f:mrow> </f:msup> <f:mo>)</f:mo> </f:mrow> </f:math> , in agreement with previous estimates.
