Abstract

Acute osteomyelitis of flat bones is a rare clinical entity. Its diagnosis is uncommon, difficult, and requires a high suspicion. We report a case of scapular osteomyelitis in a 14-year-old male infant involving the acromion. The diagnosis was clinically suspected in front of acute bone pain with fever. Standard radiography was normal. Ultrasonography and CT-Scan of the shoulder have objectified a collection in contact with the acromion. He was treated by an urgent surgical debridement through a posterior approach and adapted antibiotic therapy. Staphylococcus aureus was isolated in preoperative specimens. The evolution was good after 4 years of follow-up.
