The text reflects on the censorship after 1989 in the context of its ability to create and paradoxically legitimize the otherness. As the example the author uses Polish imaginary around HIV/AIDS epidemics with special focus on the two artistic exhibitions from the early 1990s taking the epidemic as their subject. One of them today forgotten was quite successful, the other – today remembered and often mentioned in the context of 1990s art – was censored. Showing how on the brink of identity politics the censorship qualifies what is understood and treated as the other the text shows different political possibilities inscribed in the history of political transition.
