The Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized various sectors by enabling seamless connectivity and data exchange among devices. However, the inherent security challenges posed by the resource-constrained nature of many IoT devices necessitate the adoption of specialized cryptographic solutions. Lightweight cryptography (LWC) emerges as a critical field aimed at providing efficient cryptographic techniques that cater to the limited computational power, memory, and energy resources of IoT devices. Traditional cryptographic methods, such as AES often unsuitable for these environments due to their high resource demands. LWC addresses this gap by offering algorithms that maintain robust security while minimizing overhead. This paper explores the significance of lightweight cryptography in enhancing IoT security, emphasizing the need for efficient implementations that can protect sensitive data across diverse applications. As IoT continues to expand into critical domains, the development and integration of lightweight cryptographic techniques will be essential for ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of interconnected systems.
