Abstract

The Grignon Energie Positive improvement process method was developed at the experimental farm of AgroParisTech in Grignon. In this framework, the primary energy consumptions and the greenhouse gas emissions per liter of milk produced have been reduced by respectively 34% and 15% between 2006 and 2013. The farm’s greenhouse gas emissions per person fed according to needs in total proteins have however increased, mainly due to the loss of area cultivated in cash crops. The improvement process method was successfully implemented in a network of farms in France. For example, in the farm of La Robinais in Ille-et-Vilaine region, the techniques which were implemented enabled to limit the effect of the rising prices of feed on the farm costs and to reduce by 13% the primary energy consumption per liter of milk produced
