ADVISORS: GUTAMA JIRA (PhD) ABSTRACT Research finding on diversity, relative abundance, and distribution of non-human primates in Gura Trigni Forest conducted from October 2018 to July 2019, observations used to generate Information on diversity, relative abundance, distributions, and species composition of diurnal primates collected. Data were organized and analyzed using descriptive statistics, and Simpson index for species of primates recorded in three site namely; Harawa, Gendo, and Kotam of Gura Trigni forest. During 57hectar of forest observations, I recorded 706 individual among primate species diversity their diversity index 3.049. Colobus monkey (Colobus abyssinicus), Anubis baboon (Papioanubis), Vervet monkey (Chlorocebus aethiops) and Blue monkey (Cercopithecus mitis boutourlinii) were recorded, Colobus monkey were the most frequently observed (n = 315 sightings), Anubis baboon (n=212), Vervet monkey (n=133) and Blue monkey were the least (n=46) recorded respectively. Threat factors to primate diversity, abundance and distributions were anthropogenic and ecological effect. Population size is the actual number of individuals in a population distributed in different habitats of Gura Trigni forest such as fragmented forest, dense forest, and farmland and bush land. 375 and 331were recorded during Wet and Dry seasons respectively. In conclusion, I observed there was diversity of four Primates species those are under different relative abundance, distribution, threat factors and need conservation. It was recommend that people around the Gura Trigni forest and woreda government affairs of Gida Ayana, how they can conserve Gura Tirigni forest and sustain life of primate species with government.
