The research aims to investigate how accessible public transportation is in the Akaki Kality sub-city of Addis Ababa, and to identify the specific factors that influence the quality and effectiveness of those services. focusing on public transport users This research study adopts a research paradigm that combines positivist and interpretive approaches within a comprehensive research design utilizing descriptive and explanatory methods. It employs a mixed methods approach, with a target population of identified at approximately 255,348, with a sample size of 400 respondents for quantitative analysis consisting of public transport users as the target population. And 20 individuals for qualitative interviews, utilizing a mixed-methods descriptive and explanatory research design. The sampling techniques of purposive sampling and stratified random sampling are utilized to ensure a diverse and representative sample. Data collection involves both secondary and primary sources, including survey questionnaires, interviews, and document reviews. Data analysis comprises descriptive and inferential analyses to provide a thorough examination and understanding of the research questions. This study aims to offer valuable insights into the experiences and behaviors of public transport users through a multifaceted research approach. Major findings revealed strong correlations between urban mobility and infrastructure quality (r = .761, p < .001) and community engagement (r = .759, p < .001), highlighting that well maintained infrastructure and active community involvement significantly enhance urban mobility. Public transport accessibility (r = .659, p < .001) and socioeconomic factors (r = .741, p < .001) also demonstrate substantial relationships with urban mobility outcomes. Additionally, urban density (r = .529, p < .001) and public policy (r = .718, p < .001) contributed moderately to mobilizing urban transport systems. This research concludes that targeted improvements in public transport accessibility, infrastructure quality, and the incorporation of community input into the decision-making processes are essential for enhancing urban mobility in Akaki Kality. These insights provide a comprehensive framework for policymakers and urban planners to address transport challenges and improve overall urban mobility for diverse demographics within rapidly evolving urban landscapes.
