Contamination of surface water is a frequent issue in water quality management. Addressing this issue involves thoroughly understanding of water quality and detecting contaminated sources. Climate factors have a considerable influence on seasonal changes in the physicochemical parameters studied, such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), turbidity, electrical conductivity (EC), salinity, chloride (Cl-), ammonium (NH4+), nitrite (NO2-), nitrate (NO3-) and orthophosphate (PO43-). Bacteriological parameters, on the other hand, are in line with Moroccan standards, with averages of 9.8, 11.65, and 78.7 CFU/100 ml for total coliforms (TC), fecal coliforms (FC), and fecal streptococci (FS), respectively. Despite compliance with standards, the high level of fecal streptococci indicates the presence of pollution from multiple sources, which could pose a potential risk to the environment and human health. However, the water quality index (WQI) is rated as good to excellent in spring and autumn, but poor to very poor in summer and winter. The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed no significant difference between the parameters and the stations, except for chloride, which showed a significant variation. A significant difference between the parameters and the seasons observed, except for total coliforms. This study aims to explore and enhance water quality management in Betoya Bay.
