The compilation of a parametric catalogue of earthquakes in a country such as Italy, for a chronological window spanning more than a millennium, is an undertaking of unimaginable complexity. Over the last ten years, the work of updating the catalogue has mainly concerned the in-depth study of the early studies of the 1990s. One aspect that is being addressed at this stage, and is the subject of this work, is the verification of some 20 catalogue records, which are not included in the current version, but potentially could be. An expeditious but rigorous search was performed on these cases, and the results are presented here. Five records turned out to be very doubtful or certainly false; in a couple of events no macroseismic information was found, in another couple of situations it was considered unrealistic to search for macroseismic information on minor shocks within complex sequences. For all the other cases, studies presented here make available intensity data that allow new epicentral parameters to be derived.
