Abstract

Information is disseminated on a massive scale through many channels. The human mind has difficulty handling and filtering such vast amounts of data. It is hard for an individual to assess the reliability of the information or use it to their advantage. The development of information and communications technology and the amount of data available has led to changes in the media operation and the mediatisation of politics. How online companies acquire customers and revenue has also evolved. This literature review explores the problem of information overload and the changes that have occurred in this phenomenon due to the digital revolution. Information overload is defined as a state in which the amount of information exceeds the individual’s ability to process it. To overcome its adverse effects, it is necessary to increase digital and information literacy. Measures should be taken both at the individual and governmental levels.
