Abstract

In recent years, the demands placed on academic libraries have changed fundamentally. The current issue of GMS MBI highlights how medical libraries and other institutions are responding to these changes and developing innovative learning space concepts to continue to meet the needs of their users. The articles range from empirical surveys to determine user preferences to examples of successful redesigns of library spaces into modern hybrid learning environments. A central aspect is the creation of flexible access to library resources, as demonstrated by the open library concept. The role of digital learning spaces as “third places” is also discussed to promote exchange between students, teachers, and external interested parties. This issue invites readers to think together about innovative solutions and to continue the dialogue about future developments in our libraries. The issue is supplemented by an article on a blended learning course on systematic literature research, news from the AGMB Executive Board and the AG-EBM, and the annual Medical Library Bibliography.
