Abstract

Abstract: This research analyses how we can truly appreciate The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner without leaning on artificial intelligence technologies. Drawing from Noam Chomsky's ideas about our innate linguistic abilities and generative grammar, the study suggests that the unique aspects of Faulkner's storytelling - like its fragmented syntax, shifts in time, and stream-of-consciousness approach - are best understood through the reader's natural linguistic skills and intellectual insight. Unlike machine readings that depend on statistical models and predictions, human readers have a special knack for making sense of chaos, finding meaning, and forming emotional connections with the text.
