A relationship between the ridge distribution in \Δ\η and the\nsingle-particle distribution in \η is proposed. It is then verified by use\nof the data from PHOBOS on both distributions. The implication seems to point\nto the possibility that there is no long-range longitudinal correlation. An\ninterpretation of the phenomenological observation along that possibility is\ndeveloped.\n
