Abstract

Dr. Alpers is a lecturer in the History Department of the University College, Dar es Salaam. He has been studying the history of the Yao and of the Malawi Empire; to this examination of the Sultans of Kilwa in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries he brings an extensive knowledge of the Portuguese sources.
