Abstract

The  objective  of  this  study  is  to  explore  the  achievements  and  challenges  of  Civic  and Ethical  Education  in  Ethiopia  since  1990s.  Methodologically,  this  study  employed qualitative  approach.  It  used  purposive  sampling.  Both  primary  and  secondary  data collection instruments were employed. Discourse analysis was employed to analyze data. The study found Civic and Ethical Education has been playing its positive contribution in building the democratic system of the country through producing well informed, active and participant  citizens.  The  study  also  found  the  following  challenges:  lack  of  quality  curriculum; improper mode of delivery; lack of trained professionals; negative perceptions and attitudes; external environment and interdisciplinary nature.
