ancer pain is a major public health problem. More than 85% of people affected by cancer will suffer from moderate to severe pain in 50% of cases, and severe to intolerable pain in 30% of cases. A multidisciplinary approach can effectively relieve this burden in 85 to 95% of patients by combining pharmacological measures and various other modalities. In oncology, the use of adjuvant or co-analgesic drugs is proposed to improve opioid-induced analgesia in pain that only partially responds to opioid administration which is otherwise responsible of side effects. Over the past three decades the number, diversity and use of these co analgesics have increased dramatically, and several are now indicated as first line therapy for certain type of pain. The objectives of this update are to identify the indications of co-analgesics in the treatment of cancer pain, and to select the appropriate co-analgesic based on the type of pain.
