The aim of the OtoP 3D project is to contribute to the development of precision livestock farming in sheep production by the production of the proof of concept and test of two technologies adapted to animals with low economic value and large flocks: self-weighing and 3D imaging. These two complementary highthroughput phenotyping technologies are intended to replace the Body Condition Score (BCS). The aim is twofold: to serve as a decision-making tool for breeders, enabling them to run their herds more efficiently (producing more with less), and to provide access to rationalised genetic selection based on new traits. Two systems were co-developed and tested in the OtoP 3D project, with encouraging results in terms of field implementation and weight and BCS monitoring.
