Abstract

Kernels contamination by mycotoxins and especially deoxynivaneol (DON) represents a major sanitary threat for the cereals. Here, we compared a set of different methodologies to evaluate Fusarium damaged kernels and DON contaminated flours. This will allow to routinely assessing these traits in breeding programs. Thanks to these methodologies, we identified seven wheat genomic regions involved in resistance to DON accumulation. Molecular markers associated with these regions are now available to breed for varieties with improved resistance, a high priority of the grain sector.
